The Echills Wood Railway Observer

Reporting Every Monday

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND!

This weekend has been a huge success for two reasons. First, was the Halloween Event itself which was run over two days for the first time ever. This year, the Park Staff & EWR Staff joined forces to make this event much better than last year, as everything was displayed around the railway, instead of different areas of the Park as in previous years. Since the Echills Wood Railway came to Kingsbury, we have run this event with just our own displays and the Park doing their own displays. But by working together, we managed to centre everything around the railway, which was more beneficial to the visitors, as we had more staff to operate the various animated displays that need people to operate them. It is hoped that next years event will be as good as if not even better, although it will only be held on Halloween itself for one day which will be Sunday 31st October 2010.

Second, with the weather being almost as good as summer, quite a lot of members have managed to get in two good days work on the Far Leys Extension, and by Sunday evening 1st November, we should have broke the camels back (so to speak) on this massive project that has been going on now, for well over eighteen months, when the first tracks were laid from Picnic Junction. So this weeks report will be quite a large one, with around one hundred photos, which will cover the three days work done over the Halloween Weekend. The main report will cover all this work as well as work done earlier in the week and a separate page will be added to cover the Halloween Event itself. I should have the Halloween Page done by Sunday evening and the Main Works Report done for Monday evening.

May I just add, we are having another FOUR DAY WORKING - LONG WEEKEND Starting Friday 20th November 2009 until and including Monday 23rd November 2009. The EWR would be grateful if as many members as possible could try and make it on any of the four days, all if possible, as we are hoping to get all the track laid to complete the Far Leys Extension. There will still be plenty of work after this, before the extension is opened for public running, but if we can manage to get all the track laid before the worst of the winter weather, the final adjustments and the rest of the infastructure, can be in place for the final Easter opening to the public. Hot Bacon Sandwiches will be provided on all four days for those that are prepared to help out! Saturday & Sunday should be the main days, but if you can make it on Friday & Monday as well, all the better. WE NEED YOU!!!     YOUR HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!
